💸 $4M in Adspend - Steal this Hook

This is an ad our agency Inceptly made for Doodly, and it had almost 4 million USD in ad spend, one of many ads that Inceptly used to scale Doodly to huge scale (and profits) via YouTube ads, month after month:

🔬 Let’s look at the hook you can swipe…

Now, let's look at the first few seconds of the ad:

As you can see, the ad opens up with the price.

Which might seem a bit unusual, but hear me out…

Most of the time you won’t hear a product’s price until you go to the sales page.

And as I’m sure you’ve seen in some cases, (like this affiliate VSL below), you might have to wait 30+ minutes for even the “add to cart” button to show up:

It’s “AIDA” With a Twist

But really, this “Say the price first” hook element is just one way of following a common “AIDA” type of ad framework:

  • 🎯 Attention: Grabbing the audience's attention.
  • 💡 Interest: Generating interest in the product or service.
  • ❤️ Desire: Creating a desire for the product or service.
  • ✅ Action: Encouraging the audience to take a specific action, such as making a purchase or signing up for more information.

Naming the price out of the gate is just one way of grabbing that viewer’s attention.

Try it out!

Now let’s see one more ad that seems to be copying this with some success…

You’ll see other ads trying this, like this one:

Ad spend on this one isn’t insane at around $100k lifetime, but it’s close to 6 figures overall with 13,000 USD of that coming in the last 30 days alone.

So chances are it’s doing decent.

👇👇 Here’s the takeaway: 👇👇

Once you have some traction with an ad that’s doing decent, don’t be afraid to test new, unusual hooks in the first 5-10 seconds of your YouTube ad.

Now again, this is after we’ve already found our first “winner” ad - which is a topic for another email (to say the least)…

We like to dedicate 80% of our ad efforts to testing new hooks to incrementally improve “control” ads that are working now.

(Which also helps us prevent creative fatigue)

…And dedicate 20% of our efforts to finding entirely new, breakthrough ads (completely new formats / etc.) that can potentially push results to new heights.

But in the meantime:

Want some ideas of where to find new hooks to “Swipe” for your ads?

Remember to…

🕵️ Look at older ads within your category for inspiration.

📊 Consider similar categories, not just your own, for additional ideas.

🌐 Expand your research beyond direct competitors to include indirect ones as well - see what’s working there and swipe it for your own vertical.

And most importantly…
